After trying to go to a location near to the last vlog, which turned out to be covered with campervans and families, I went to my back up location that was perfectly isolated and a joy to watch the sunset. It was horribly windy, making audio recording almost impossible, but the combination of light, clouds and sea created some brilliant minimalist compositions and a great evening of landscape photography!
Slowing down and exploring a sandy beach for detailed compositions. A wonderful day escaping the rain of the mountains and enjoying a day at the beach. I was looking for some detailed stone/sand patterns to photograph but all of the ones I could find had a foot/paw print cluttering the composition. Luckily I managed a couple images…
A whole day of photographing Red Grouse in purple flowering heather. After the first couple of encounters went awry, it was great to finally get close to some red grouse and get some cracking images that I’m really happy with! The red grouse look great surrounded by the purple and pink colours of the heather!
After discussing the pressure of photography and the feeling of burning out, Daniel manages to find a couple of compositions on the loch shores as he looked for detailed landscape photography compositions. A bit of a mixed day with some images that don’t work out, but taking the time and slowing down allowed for a contemplative and rejuvenating day.
Daniel talks about the struggles that he has been feeling trying to get the perfect photography, and building pressure on himself to produce the most amazing photos. This feeling of pressure leads to problems being creative and actually enjoying the photography. So he is going to try a new technique for his photography moving forward…
Battling the never ending midges, Daniel explored a local birch forest hoping that the misty conditions will develop into a full fog. While exploring he discovers vibrant colours blanketing the forest floor, oranges from dead bracken, pretty pinks and purples from flowering heather, and vibrant greens from the lush summer growth. An interesting morning of landscape photography…
Following immediately on from the last vlog about my new Kase Filters, I went to a little village on the Moray Coast to photograph the setting sun. The sandy beach provided some great compositions and the sun dazzled with vibrant oranges contrasting with a deep blue in the sky. It was a great evening of photography with plenty of images!
Daniel recently invested in a brand new Kase Filter Kit, and so he went to Spey Bay on the Moray Coast to check them out and demonstrate what filters do to an image. He walks through the various filters from soft grads to solid super stoppers, and polarisers in between. The Kase Filters are thoroughly impressive and definitely will lead to some new and interesting photography…
During a day trip to Fort William in Scotland, Daniel was astounded by the changing light across the mountain landscape of Glen Nevis. Quickly getting out of the car and getting some images of the mountains, he decided to vlog this unexpected delight. Exploring the Glen for the first time, Daniel managed to find several images, and then before the light left, dashed quickly across to Corpach to photograph the iconic abandoned boat.
Finally a calm day with no wind or rain, perfect conditions for photographing reflections on a small loch near by in the Cairngorms National Park. Daniel explores a small loch in this vlog episode during which he has to create an HDR image by combining several exposures together in post processing.
Another wet and drizzly morning in the Cairngorms National Park, so Daniel heads to a local waterfall to get some landscape photography. The magnificent waterfall is large and well connected, which means that there are plenty of easily accessible features for some great compositions. A perfect morning for waterfall photography!
A very wet and drizzly morning meant that I went out to the birch woodland near to home to capture some forest photography. It was a surprisingly good morning, I managed to get some great traditional forest photography. As well as experimenting with ICM to create some interesting abstract woodland images.
It's the morning after a terrible day of photography, but this morning goes a lot better. Rising early, I went out in search of the mist for a second morning in a row and I encountered some amazing landscapes that created beautiful images. Swirling mist and colourful skies made for an amazing morning of landscape photography.
Ater a long day on the computer, I went out to photograph some red deer in the quickly vanishing snow. Going to one of my favourite locations I manage to encounter several red deer males with full racks of antlers. I got some images, which I really love and witnessed some mild antler wrestling. A great evening of wildlife photography!
Wondering around the snowy forests of Abernethy led to a great photographic morning. I got some wonderful forest images of the snow and I even did some ICM. The second vlog I filmed, and I couldn’t have asked for more atmospheric conditions.
The first vlog I filmed. I’m not gonna lie, it starts off a bit sketchy. I was a bit nervous and didn’t talk with the camera and as I was focusing on filming, I missed out on some epic light. In the photos you can see that I missed the focus point by a millimeter! Very annoying but the scenery and the light is amazing…
